Full Moon in Scorpio – ‘Don’t Fear the Reaper’

Full Moon in Scorpio – ‘Don’t Fear the Reaper’

You stand alone before a gleaming white altar under the silvery light of the Full Moon. From this distance, you can’t see what lies on the slab, but a thrill travels up your spine — yes, you’re being summoned. You can’t help but look.

When you step forward, you see yourself on this altar. No, your life is not on the line — after all, you are the one observing this surreal scene. It is a false image of yourself that is being offered up — will you continue to worship this idol, or will you sacrifice it on the altar of truth?

When the temperamental Moon shines in her full glory, some aspect of our life has reached its culmination, the peak of a growth cycle. We are rewarded with the promise of harvest, but before a harvest must come a reaping. Death begets life.

It’s a time of release, to tie up loose ends, and give up what no longer serves you or helps you grow, in order to move forward more powerfully.

The Moon rules our emotions, intuition, past, and memories. When she is Full, the receptive Moon opposes her consort and counterpart, the active Sun, who has moved as far away from her as he can, resting in the opposite sign.

The Moon represents what we feel and the Sun represents what we do with that feeling – therefore, we may feel quite out of sorts, discombobulated, overstimulated, or even depressed at this time, depending on how authentically we have been aligning action with  intuition.

In the days leading up to the Full Moon this Sunday, inner tensions echo or howl; memories bubble up, breaking the surface of our lives, blurring present and past. If you’re out of touch with — or have attempted to bury — your inner self, your intuitive voice, this time can be turbulent, but still pricelessly illuminating.

The degree to which you experience this tension points to the need to attend to yourself, hear yourself, honor yourself. If you match your actions to your intuition and feelings, you can experience the challenges and expansions leading up to the Full Moon as inspiring, energizing, full of sweet satisfaction.

This weekend, she shines in the sign of Scorpio, the detective, alchemist, secret-keeper, and heavy-eyed, sharp-tongued seducer. Scorpio is all-or-nothing, diving to the depths, because that’s how deep one must get to the truth. And Scorpio is nothing if not authentic.

This Full Moon shines in the sector where you must get radically real with yourself — are you trying to bury something that continuously resurrects to haunt you? The regenerative Scorpio Moon won’t let you lie to yourself, and those unhealthy attachments you do not give up willingly may be ripped away.

The transformative sign of Scorpio knows that part of you must die if you’re to truly live. Secrets may be revealed without warning, whether they are yours or others’ — information that will help you purge the unnecessary or unhealthy from your life.

Is there some aspect of your life that you are attempting to control, or a powerful attachment to a specific outcome? Scorpio is a possessive soul, and inclined to psychological manipulation to get its way. “The ends justify the means.” (Scorpio rules endings, naturally.)

Release the need to control others through sheer domination or subtler, more Machiavellian tactics — nothing can be truly controlled in this world, and when you attempt to pull puppets on strings, you end up doing a lot of dancing of your own.

How can you transform this energy to better “manipulate” your own energies and abilities?

When the full Moon in secretive Scorpio opposes the Sun in steadfast Taurus, we are asked to explore our hidden feelings and turn them into open actions — yet we are not meant to impress our will upon the world, but to transform (Scorpio) and build (Taurus) ourselves up with our willpower, then to live by the ideals we cultivate.

Where do your actions spring from? What is your true motivation, your real desire? Do you give your power away? Do you take actions that give you remorse? If so, ask yourself why. Honestly, and without judgement. How is it serving you?

To know ourselves is to empower ourselves, and when we stand fully in our own power, we have the ability to empower others, and allow others to act in their own way, free from desire to manipulate or control. Does your truth empower you?

Both Taurus and Scorpio are fixed signs — the hardheaded, self-piloted, creators of the zodiac. Invoke their immovable centeredness as you move through the nebulous transformation of the Full Moon.

Don’t seek answers or place blame outside of yourself — you are the ultimate and only arbiter of your destiny. Nothing and no one can transform you but you. Ironically, you may abdicate control in a bid to feel secure.

To know our truth is to know our power. To live our truth is to unleash it. The Scorpio Full Moon will rip away falsehoods, strip away facades, leaving the naked bones of our soul gleaming under her eternal, shifting light.

You stand before the altar.

Don’t fear the reaper.

You can make some radical magic with your money this week, Aries, if you’re willing to put it where your mouth is. The Full Moon is illuminating your House of Intimacy and The Other, the House of Shared Assets, Income, and Power. “Sell your shit and pay off your debt!” is becoming a trendy phrase and lifestyle, and deservedly so, but it’s especially relevant to you right now. Your stars are saying, “less is more,” and quality over quantity. You may feel richer when you use “extra” money to pay off debt, or when you sell or donate objects that are just taking up your physical and emotional space. This is a great time to purge your life of objects and emotions that drain you of power and resources. Give and take is a key part of the best emotional and professional relationships, and an imbalance in either direction is the difference between failure and success – not to mention personal fulfillment, which is what the sensitive Moon craves most! Clean out the cobwebs and clear the decks, Aries – you’re making room for more power and pleasure.

While ideas usually do it for you, Gemini, this week, it’s all about results. The Full Moon is lighting up your House of Work and Routine, the House of Health, Habits, and How Do I Look Naked. Revelations are coming up this week around your everyday life, particularly your job and your (conscious or unconscious) rituals – like you walk into your job and think, “I can’t take it anymore,” or “I’m gonna get that promotion;” or you look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I have to work out,” or “all my work is totally paying off!” The Full Moon brings either crisis or culmination – either way, it illuminates something that is demanding your attention. This is a great time to change habits and routines that aren’t working for you, and to clean up old, lingering tasks that have been haunting your to-do list. Don’t worry if things feel a little more dramatic than usual for you this week, Scorpio – when the Full Moon rises in your House of Self, your life become nigh operatic! That’s not a jab – you feel everything even more than usual this week, especially when it comes to yourself, for better and for worse. You’re very aware of your appearance, for example, so if someone makes a comment about it, you’re more likely to take it to heart, or feel hurt if it’s not positive. And if someone crosses a personal boundary, your first instinct may be to assume they meant to piss you off, when in reality, they didn’t realize they had done anything at all. “Never attribute malice to that which can be explained by incompetence.” This is the time to think about your needs and boundaries – what do you need (and importantly, not need!) from other people in order to be happy? The more you can recognize and establish your own standards and deal breakers, the less emotional strife you’ll deal with, and the more bandwidth you’ll have to take on the world. And now’s the time, because with this Full Moon’s spotlight on you, you are shining!
